The piece is a brief meditation on verses by Korean poet Kim Sowol (1902-1934). His poem “On the Mountain” evokes feelings of isolation, longing, and of the vastness of our natural surroundings, but I’ve chosen to focus on just one line from the poem. That line, “The swaying, waking song of the water / 흔들어 깨우치는 물노래에는” translated by David McCann (Azaleas, Columbia University Press), provided more than enough imagery for exploration.
