Even with everything upside-down due to the pandemic, people are still managing to make live music. I was glad to recently experience a recital by piri soloist Chiwan Park (빅치완), who performed a concert of four works. While there was no in-person audience, Chiwan has put the concert up on his YouTube channel. One of the pieces on the program was a new work I wrote for Chiwan titled Bisang (비상). The piece takes its inspiration from the poem of a 16th century Korean poet, in which he describes a crane launching and soaring over the mountains.
