The soloists, too, act as percussionists at time, with the cellist tapping and striking the instrument and the daegeum player beatboxing around the shaman rhythms.<\/p>\n<p>The piece is separated into six sections:[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=&#8221;211981&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>I. Incantation:<\/strong>\u00a0The soloists enter, chanting and singing in slow tones.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>II. Swaying and Spinning:<\/strong> Melodies dance atop shaman rhythms (in this case a <em>puneori<\/em> rhythm.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>III. A Prayer:<\/strong>\u00a0The motion from the previous section comes to a halt, and the soloists sing long, lyrical lines.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>IV. Ghost Song:<\/strong>\u00a0The shaman rhythms return (this time a <em>deuleung-gaengi<\/em> rhythm), as the energy builds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>V. Possession:<\/strong>\u00a0This is the cadenza of the piece, in which a third voice emerges from the two soloists.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>VI. Frenzied Fervor:<\/strong> The energy intensifies as the percussionists rejoin the soloists.
