His writings, mostly in the traditional Korean forms of the gasa<\/em> and sijo<\/em>, often explore the emotions of one who has been expelled from his home and must deal with thoughts of isolation. In one such poem he uses the imagery of a crane which will one day soar above the clouds:<\/p>\n

When my long feathers molt,<\/em>
\nI\u2019ll flap my wings again<\/em>
\nand soar above the cloudy blue, where I\u2019ll see<\/em>
\na fresh, unimpeded world<\/em>

This vivid symbolism serves as the inspiration for Bisang<\/em>, which is translated as \u201csoaring.\u201d Beginning calmly, energy is gradually amassed until the music launches upwards. After fits of zigging and zagging, the mood eventually calms, with the piri and janggu weaving placid circular patterns together.<\/p>\n
