I recently made my way to Washington, D.C., for the premiere of a new work, Radiance, for haegeum and cello. Soo Yeon Lyuh, an excellent haegeum player I’ve worked with for many years, and Ashley Bathgate, a fantastic cellist with whom I was collaborating for the first time, asked a handful of composers to write new works for their new duo. They gave the first performances of those works on their recital at the Smithsonian’s Freer/Sackler Gallery. The entire evening was a success. I’ve posted a rehearsal video below.
